I feel so sorry for this fox. It was a really nice example of a healthy fox but unfortunately it has caught this horrid disease known as
Sarcoptic Mange . I can’t get close enough to physically treat it so I am in the process of trying to find out if I can get any kind of medicine which I can put on food which hopefully the fox will eat and which may eventually cure it.

Bloody vermin and becoming an increasing menace in urban areas. A cull is needed ASAP.
Sorry tony but we are the ones building and living in housing estates where the foxes and other animals lived leaving them less and less room, and what makes them "vermin"
One mans vermin is another mans fury friend.
I like foxes. But I want to know if farmers have got a case for controlling the Fox population?
Seeing as virtually all newbuild is on brownfield sites that's nonsense. The population and consequent boldness and aggressiveness of urban foxes is growing rapidly, and while they may not technically be vermin they are becoming an increasing nuisance.
I think i'd rather see a cull of domestic dogs in urban areas tony, they have got to outnumber foxes by 20 to 1 roaming on the streets
Roy I think there may be a case in some instances, Foxes can wipe out a whole flock of chickens in no time, iv'e seen the results of it, if its killing your stock then shoot it, if the worst its doing is nicking food out of your bin then put a lid on your bin and dont leave black bags out
I have great respect for farmers. That's why! Their opinion is very important on the issue of Fox control.
I rule out hunting with dogs.
Can't go for that method.
Im with you all the way on that issue, If an animal needs to be killed do it humanly and quickly, I dont see why there needs to be a whole ritual of dressing up and chasing a beast till its exhausted and terrified, If its a problem get a marksman to shoot it, end of story.
Talking of 'Sarcoptic Mange', did you see Sir Richard Leese on TV just now?
Yes, what a weasel he is. We think we have it bad with Dumb and Dumber in charge. Imagine having Leese and Karny as the head honcho's. No wonder Manchester is finished.
tony is that why that was going to build on the 2 golf courses at debdale and yes they call that brown belt.
Tameside council say that a brownfield site is any land which has previously been used for any purpose and is no longer used for that purpose, which means if you have enough cash for a backhander you can build anywhere.
Wilf you must live in a strange area and/or not go out at night. I virtually never see dogs wandering on their own, especially when compared to a few years ago. Whilst walking my dog at night, at least once a week I'll see a fox and they are nowhere near as wary or shy as they used to be. I once stood within a few feet while two dog foxes had a fight that lasted ten minutes, that was in a car park in the town centre.
As for brownfield it's classified as 'previously developed land', the vast majority of which was for former industrial use such as factories which weren't known for being infested with foxes which have now been displaced. The urban fox population's gone up as has the nuisance factor, if it gets to a certain point no doubt the authorities or individuals will take action, just like with rats.
Tony, I live in the countryside mate and i'd wondered where all the foxes had gone! Tamesides own website say that a brownfield site is any land not just industrial.
Wonder where this money came from to speculate in the shares of:

Is TMBC playing the shares market with OUR COUNCIL TAXES.
I always thought OUR TAXES was for the infrastructure, facilities
and services for Tamesiders.
If it was The Greater Manchester Pension Fund playing the markets as it does and administrated by Tameside Councillors and the other Greater Manchester Councils then
surely the transaction would not have been shown direct with the TMBC Council Offices Wellington Road.
If TMBC play the markets with OUR MONEY, which other Companies have got OUR MONEY courtesy of TMBC
I think we need to know something more about TMBC`s activities especially when our money seems to be involved
The official definition of brownfield and the rules that classify it are the same everywhere, no matter what wording Tameside use. Greenfield is classified as previously undeveloped land.
In the Borough virtually all the large housing estates built in the last few years, and that's a lot, have come from places like Ashton Bros factory, the enormous ICI plant in Newton, the former Gallagher's cigarette factory, Castrol, Lakes Road school etc etc and that's just in a couple of square miles. Many pubs have been bulldozed and turned into flats/houses also, the Norman in Duki, the Hallbottom Gate in Newton in the last few weeks alone, much of the demand is coming from surrounding areas which people want to move out of. The negative effects of this overpopulation are irrelevant to TMBC whose only concern is the retention of power through their 15000 or so 'friends' and dupes in the electorate who keep them there. The apathetic 70% or so who can't be bothered to vote or get involved are the real culprits however. It will be interesting to see what Tameside's population is in this year's census with all the ensuing strain on infrastructure, traffic and pollution etc.
Getting back to foxes, they come to areas where the pickings are easier and it's an increasing and nationwide problem. Urban fox numbers are estimated to have risen from zero to 34000 in the last 70 years. If the rat population and nuisance had increased that much there would be no hesitation from public or authorities in immediately dealing with it.
