Heartless motorist runs over cat in Stalybridge and fails to stop

About 45 minutes ago I was driving along Acres Lane in Stalybridge and I saw the cat above attempt to run across the road in front of my car. I braked hard which gave the cat time to reconsider and head back to the pavement. The car behind must have seen what a near miss it was and to my disbelief as I looked through my rear view mirror I watched the cat embark on suicide mission part two - this time it was successful and I saw the cat go right under the car. I immediately stopped in the hope the cat may have been lucky and avoided the wheels, as is evident from the photograph sadly this was not the case.

The evil creature responsible for killing the cat did not even make an attempt to stop to see the condition of the cat he had just run over. Unfortunately I did not get the registration of the car but it was a silver Japanese looking car - possibly a Honda Civic. If the motorist responsible happens to stumble upon this article I have one thing to say to you - you are pure scum and I hope the same thing one day happens to you!

That is tragic. People who accidentally kill domestic anmals should have the decency to stop and find the owner of the animal before driving off.

I remember when my cat was run over - it took her three days to get back home with a broken pelvis and maggot-ridden fur. Luckily, she pulled through and has now made a full recovery.

I know the feeling Tom. My dog got hit by a car when he was a pup but thankfully after a week in the animal hospital in Swinton he pulled through.

I was hoping the cat was going to be just stunned as I saw it lying on the road but I was filled with dread as I walked over that it may have been seriously injured but still alive and where the humane thing to do would have been to put it out of its agony. There is no way I could have done it. Thank heavens I didn’t have to face that trauma.

KTR said...

Disgraceful and cowardly behaviour driving off.
But not being able to finish an animal off when it's in agony is pure self-indulgence.

Please that picture is gross. Could you show one instead of the cat in happier days?

This brings to mind an incident on King Street in Dukinfield a few years ago. In broad daylight some pigeons were gathered on the road and a callous car driver went straight for them without braking. One was hit and left in agony at the roadside and I had to quickly put it out of its misery with a stick to the head. You learn to think the very worst of humanity through its indifference toward animal welfare.

Looks a bit like Blackie. He's buried in my front garden.

I think the picture should stay to show the wicked nature of the car driver who drove off without even having the compassion to stop.

You see! A lot of folk don't like cats because they kill the wild birds.
Blackie became a loved member of the family. Cats can be very cruel, they play with the birds before they kill them.

KTR, pray tell how you would ‘finish an animal off’ if you were presented with such a predicament? Bearing in mind this is not the wild west where a cowboy could just draw his Smith & Wesson from his holster and dispatch the stricken beast in a humane manner.

Tameside Citizen said...

Mark Warren, come on now, you surely you don’t think I will fall for such an obvious attempt at sending me off onto a rant. If cats are used in experiments their suffering will be no more or no less than all the other animals who find themselves in laboratories of torture. If their suffering genuinely does help in the battle to eliminate human disease and suffering then maybe it is a price worth paying.

For the record; I am not a great lover of cats. I have had many a run in with cats in the garden who have been waiting to pounce on unsuspecting birds and of course my now vanished (probably eaten by a cat) field mouse. However saying that, I would not wilfully harm a cat other than by throwing an apple or similar missile to expose their hiding place to unsuspecting prey.

OLD ASHTONIAN said...

Now this does worry me,!! what the hell has that got to do with a cat!!

Mark Warren said...

So thst's a definite maybe on vivisection then is it.

Bernard said...

We should be allowed to hunt cats.

KTR said...

TC, the last thing I had to deal with was a magpie, a nasty, vicious highly territorial bird that, ironically, had been badly savaged by a cat. My neighbour alerted me of this bird in his garden and I went round and dispatched it with my .22 air rifle with a shot to the head. The only occasion I've seen a cat killed was about twenty years ago. It had been virtually cut in half by a car but was still attempting to drag itself forward by its front legs. The man who lived opposite had already got his spade from his garage by the time I arrived on the scene and immediately decapitated the cat instantly ending its suffering.

He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 Martinis a day.

Candidate B:
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C:
He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink or take drugs, never committed adultery and loves animals.

Which of these candidates would be our choice?

Could we discuss the Tameside & Glossop PCT which certainly needs
looking at regardless of PCT`s being dismantled in the near future.
These quangoes in my opinion have been a absolute black hole for people filling desks where they are not front line diagnostic people, they treat no-one,they cure no-one,and yet these ever increasing PCT`s have grown with inner groups and committees, and even a job for Ex Councillors, and Top Labour Party Supporters like Dr.Chand who enjoys photo opportunies with local MP`s whenever.

Thank you for making yourself much clearer than you poorly written comments initially suggested. Indeed, you appeared to suggest that Churchill lost his highest office twice, when of course he resigned as PM on the second ocassion.

If you are including losing office as an MP then you are actually wrong. He also lost his seat in Dundee during the 1920s. So that makes it a hat-trick.

10/10 for bluster, 0/10 for attention to detail Irving.

Three local councils on notice to reveal spending online

Councils have been put on a week’s notice to get their books open for public scrutiny, Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles said today.

Last June, Pickles set a deadline for councils to become more transparent by publishing all of their spending data over £500 online in accessible formats, at the end of January 2011.

Within the M60, so far only Trafford Council has committed so far to putting its spending online. Manchester and Salford City Councils and Tameside Borough Council have yet to sign up and must now be considered on notice.

Councils now have just seven days to show their residents that they are ready to be open and transparent about how they spend taxpayers’ money.

A timeline on the Department’s website shows who has put their data online while making it crystal clear which councils are leaving it to the 11th hour.

A draft code of practice is due to be published shortly to help councils get on track.

Councils are expected to put details of senior pay, councillor expenses, tenders and contracts, meetings, and frontline service data into the open so that “armchair auditors” can clearly see the decisions being made on their behalf by the council in due course.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has already set the precedent for councils to follow, regularly publishing all spend data over £500.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: “I’ve called for every council to become more open and accountable about every aspect of their work, starting with getting all expenditure over £500 online by the end of this month. Transparency can help save money in tough times protecting frontline services, by cutting waste and unnecessary costs.

“The final countdown for councils has begun. In the last six months, more than half of all councils have got their house in order. Today I’m putting those councils still to open up on one week’s notice.

“The public have a right to know how their tax pounds are spent, and those yet to deliver are running out of excuses and time before they have to face their electorate - I hope every council chooses to do so openly, transparently and democratically.”

Rumour on the street is that Tameside Council has the spending over £500 information embargoed to the local press to have first dibs. Part of the conditions of getting a first look is that the press will go easy on them. This is called controlling the press

However I expect ALL bloggers to be relentless with these bastards over the coming weeks. Tameside Council have had plenty of time to publish this spending. They should be going back a year at least.

Martin Gilbert, so first you implied he wasn't kicked out of office, then after being proved wrong you discovered ANOTHER occasion when he was kicked out, and dispute that one of the originals was genuine. Tameside Council have published all spending over £500 going as far back as December 2010. You would of thought that after all the time they have had to publish this data that they would be beavering away to go back as far as much as a year as many councils have done. Apparently not.

What a bloody carve up this lot will show, but its the apathetic Tamesiders who probably don`t read newspapers or blogs who will again trot off to stick their X Down, whilst the Council falls about laughing.
Where`s the Tory comments and monitoring.
Well my opinion based on 10 years events and observations tell me that the Tameside Tories have been well and truly harnessed behind the scenes, and its time their Leadership was at last outed and joined the Labour Mafia.

All the Tameside Labour mafia need to do in the whole Borough is hang on to the approximately 17500 morons, scroungers, lefties, a few genuine socialists, the 'community' vote and the working class elderly, in their fifteen or so wards. With their manpower and 'manipulation' of the postal voting system, a truly pathetic 'opposition' and the most crucial fact of all: out of over 170,000 people on the electoral roll approximately 113,000 don't even bother to vote, it's a doddle.
