A Labour councillor who was investigated by the party's governing body following complaints about his behaviour will not be allowed to stand in next year's local elections.
Coun Andrew Doubleday was struck off the list of candidates following a two-day hearing of Labour's National Executive Committee.
The father-of-two, who represents Denton South, has been a councillor since 2000 and was waiting to see if he was to be re-selected by the local Labour party to stand for his seat again in May.
A spokesman for the North West Labour Party said: "Following an internal investigation by the NEC authorised panel Coun Doubleday has been removed from Labour's list of candidates for 2011. No further action will be taken."
It is understood that eight complaints were received about the councillor including a number from fellow party members and one from a member of the public. That complaint is believed to relate to an incident at the cricket club in the area last year. A woman is thought to have been so offended by his behaviour that she reported it to Tameside council and the local branch of the Labour party, which passed it to the national governing body to investigate.
Coun Doubleday declined to comment when contacted by the Advertiser. The councillor, a joiner by trade, sits on the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority and the Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London Adjudication Joint Committee.

Doubleday is typical of the low calibre rubbish that pass for Labour's elected representatives in Tameside. I don't agree with Labour's politics but wish they could put up some higher calibre folk, so as not to scare off as many potential investors in the region.

Don't insult people because of their ethnicity but do tell the truth, like young black men commit massively disproportionate amounts of violent crime and aggravated rapes, particularly against white women. This needs dealing with and targeting criminals ethnically is common sense.
